Matrix and GLOOKAST
on Partial Restore Workflows for Avid Interplay
UK and Davie, USA, 18th Nov 2013: Object Matrix,
trusted manufacturer of secure nearline storage platforms, announced a new
option for its Interconnect product based on collaboration with technical
partner GLOOKAST, innovator in MXF workflow
applications. This new option enables Object Matrix customers to perform
“partial restore” operations on content that is managed by Avid Interplay but
resides in the MatrixStore nearline storage platform.
Many organisations that broadcast weekly
sports programmes or daily soap instalments often require instant access to
historic episodes or archived clips. Whilst this content may be buried in tape
libraries and not instantly accessible, there is an inability to restore only
the portion of the archived file that was needed. Users had a real and constant challenge of
having to move an entire clip, potentially consuming terabytes of production
disk storage, when only a partial segment of that clip was needed.
Matrix and GLOOKAST have collaborated to solve those challenges by:
- Ensuring archived content is
available on disk on demand.
- Providing the ability to
restore only the portions of clips that are required.
The partial restore functionality is
made possible by technology found in GLOOKAST’s MediaRetriever that has been
tightly integrated at an API level to the MatrixStore nearline platform. MediaRetriever is a new addition to the GLOOKAST
product portfolio that fits diverse workflows in production, broadcast and
of the new workflow options enabled by this new Interconnect feature include:
- Media files, sequences and
sub-clips are archived to MatrixStore using the InterConnect archive
application for Avid Interplay.
- Proxy versions of the clips
are left in place on the Avid ISIS storage.
- During restore operations,
entire clips or only the desired portions of the clips can be restored
using the new partial restore mechanism.
- The partial restore mechanism
can be configured to allow for handles to be placed on the retrieved clip.
- The restored clips are checked
into Avid Interplay and stored on the Avid ISIS platform.
- Partial clips can also be
restored if the media files reside in LTO libraries managed by the Object
Matrix solution set.
MatrixStore provides functionality that
is perfectly suited to the parking and archiving of file-based content. It is also a scalable and secure ingest
repository that can lock down rushes from accidental deletion until the
production process is complete. With digital fingerprinting of content, continuous
data verification and metadata extraction, it provides producers with the peace
of mind that their content is not only protected in two locations but is also
guaranteed to be authentic. MatrixStore is currently in use as a secure rushes
repository in broadcasters and post-production facilities across Europe.
“The new partial restore functionality is very
exciting and is a natural extension of the workflows that allow our customers
to work with lower resolution clips on their production storage safe in the
knowledge that the high resolution clips are protected in the MatrixStore
nearline archive,” stated Nick Pearce, co-founder, Object Matrix. “Ensuring
that the capacity usage is kept to a minimum on the higher cost online storage
is just one of the many benefits of this new approach,” he added.
“We are very happy to collaborate with Object Matrix
in bringing this unique functionality to their customer base. One of our core
goals is to always bring innovative solutions to the Media Industry and this
technological partnership with Object Matrix is a perfect way to continue to
meet this goal,” said Edel Garcia, Executive VP of Sales and Marketing for
The InterConnect archive for Avid
Interplay will be available direct from Object Matrix. MediaRetriever will be available though
GLOOKAST’s worldwide network of resellers.
The partial restore option will be available for demonstration and sale
in January of 2014.
